Crocodiles Walking to the Circus in Acapulco

Today I added a crocodile family to the two-page spread. Because the family is placed on the spline area, I’ll divide the picture into two parts with some of the kids on the left page and the rest of the family on the opposite page. The crocs are a little too prominent and draw attention away from the conversation between the giraffe and the kids. I’ll think a a way to make they recede into the background a little more.

I made the mistake of using the bucket tool to speed up the coloring process. The problem with the bucket tool is that it doesn’t fill completely in some cases — it leaves a line of white pixels if there’s any anti aliasing left by the inking brush. The solution to the problem is not to use the bucket tool for flatting. Instead, I use the magic wand to select all of the content around the line work (there can’t be any gaps or anti-aliasing for this to work) and then invert the selection, which selects everything inside of the ink lines. Then I paint away..
