Experiment: Krita coloring grayscale with layer color mode

This is the grayscale image I’m going to color using a layer in color mode above this layer.

The point of this experiment is to get the values right in the grayscale mode and then color the page using Krita’s “color” layer mode. Every painting program has a layer color mode, so this isn’t a new discovery for anyone but me.

I’ve tried this process before, but it didn’t do miracles for my painting. I realize that I was impatient and frustrated that a new technique didn’t magically turn my sketch into something majestic.

For this drawing, I’m going to take some time to clean up the grayscale image the best I can before I start coloring it.

It’s December 7th. Somewhere out there I have a sister who has a birthday today. I haven’t talked to her in 18 years … for good reason. All the same, I wish her good fortune, good health, and a rich life.
