Al Fresco Art Club Challenge: Far and Near

Today’s art challenge was to do a series of landscape drawings that show the same scene from far to, middle, to near. I sketched three thumbnails that show the kids approaching the Mayan temple in the middle of the jungle. The images progress from when they turn the corner and see the distant pyramid, followed my the middle distance image showing them climbing stairs to the temple, and the near picture, in which they’re standing at the bottom looking up at the steep stairs they’re going to climb.
I sketched the three thumbnails using pencil and paper, then colored one of the images in Clip Studio Paint EX. My inspiration was ModernDayJames video “Sketching at a Distance: The Art of Simplifying Detail.”
