Still Working on Getting an Organic Look for My Digital Paintings

Momma was painted with a pastel brush, Jimmy with the fill tool. Buddy looks on in horror.

I’m still working on getting my digital drawings and paintings to look look less digital. When I started this book I was using the fill tool to color all of the drawings. Using the bucket was fast, but the overall look was boring compared to the digital painting I did using Frankentoon’s Procreate “sponge buildup” brush. I’ve tried to duplicate the sponge brush and I’ve come close, sort of. In the meantime I bought Daub’s Clip Studio Paint brushes — the deal with all 450 brushes. Some of them look like they’ll do what I’m looking for.

In today’s image I used the Daub pastel brush to get some texture into Momma Jay. Jimmy Jay was painted using the fill tool.
