Chore Day, Oct 24, 2020: Laundry and Digital Painting

Buddy getting a bright idea is the only image without a line drawing. The rest of the images in the book are line drawings with layers of color.

Laundry day again. While I was sitting in the laundry room I watched videos about digital painting. I'm not a painter. I a paint-by-number guy. I draw pictures and color them in, but I’d like to be a “real” painter. I’ve even thought how much fun it would be to sign up for Marc Brunet’s art course. Maybe someday I’ll have a spare $880 burning a hole in my pocke Until then, I’ll keep learning from Youtube videos.

I’m getting an urge to do more with Photoshop. I’ve had that urge many times, but I always get stuck on the learning curve and fall back to my Clip Studio Paint comfort zone. It’s really true that CSP (Clip Studio Paint) makes so many things easy that the thought of learning another painting software seems like a losing proposition.

Maybe it’s just my mood talking. My mood has been grim for the last few days. I woke up this morning with a big question in my head: What if my books never sell? Have I made a crazy decision to spend all of my time learning how to do comics? I like what I’m doing, but will anyone else? Thoughts like that can really carve a big chunk out of my enthusiasm. Perhaps I need a good night’s sleep.
